Welcome to the world Laine!
When we woke at 4:15am on October 20th, Laine's due date, we were a little uncertain as to if my water had broken. After a quick call to Overlake Labor and Delivery, we got ourselves together and headed to the hospital to see if we were in fact in labor. When we got there, they let me know I was having contractions that were 4 minutes apart...but I wasn't feeling a thing!
We were checked in and settled in to a delivery room, and at 8am the nurse started me on Pitocin to start moving things along. At 10:30am, the anesthesiologist came in to give me an epidural a little earlier than we'd planned, as there were two scheduled c-sections around that time and if we waited I wouldn't be able to get relief until quite a bit later. From then on, we visited with our families (who were camped out ALL DAY in the waiting room) until 5pm when the doctor let us know I was stuck at 7 cm and if things didn't improve by 7pm we would have to go ahead with a c-section.
Laine gets her first shampoo.
At 7pm, the doctor determined that I was now at 9 cm and a c-section was not necessary...and at 10:17pm, Laine Elizabeth Buechler was born! She was 8 pounds 14 ounces and 21 inches long. Even the doctor was shocked at her size...we were all expecting an 8 pound baby. (Laine would have been 9 pounds but she pooped on the doctor just as she was born and that lowered her a few ounces!)
