Proper Bumbo Use: A Guide by Laine

First, sit upright in the Bumbo chair. Legs forward, back straight.

Next, lean as far to one side as possible and suck on the arm of the Bumbo.

Last, while still sucking on the chair, grab your foot and pull up. Success! You're now using the Bumbo correctly.

Rockin' and Rollin' and Whatnot

Last Wednesday morning, I was surprised to find Laine's head where her feet started out the night! In other words, she did a 180 degree turn in her crib. Ever since then, I have found her that way every morning! What a little rascal.

Put Laine on her back, and (if she's in the mood) in a matter of seconds you'll find her on her tummy. She doesn't know quite what to do once she's gotten there, and isn't always happy about finding herself in that position, but she fusses even after I help her flip to her back again. Then, it's back to laying on her tummy!
She does enjoy this water playmat that my friend Cami lent to us. Slip it under those little elbows and she'll be entertained by the moving fishies for at least a few minutes!

Our Busy Day

Yesterday we had a visit with Laine's great grandmother, "Granny." We spent a good portion of the afternoon at her place, and then drove on in to Bellevue to see Daddy at his office. Laine was thrilled to see where her father disappeared to during most of his daylight hours. We let her know she could visit him occasionally there, and it made her very happy!

Granny had lots of great stories!
After our trip to US Bank, we came home and had some more playtime. Laine proceeded to show me that she still remembered how to roll over (the first time was the day before,) and also discovered her feet. (She was so quick that I couldn't get a shot of her actually grabbing them!)
This photo is sort of creepy. Does anyone else think she looks like a plastic baby doll?

And yes, that is drool covering 75% of the front of Laine's shirt.

Enjoying Tummy Time

Laine has been enjoying tummy time a little more each day. It's still not a good idea to put her on her belly right after eating, but she seems to have a pretty good time if it's just before her next meal.

Rolling from tummy to her back. (This was a few days before she started rolling from her back to her tummy.)

Laine's Room

Laine's room was technically done before she was born, but there were a few finishing touches I wanted to add and couldn't...one involved painting, and of course I couldn't do that while pregnant. Two weekends ago, I was able to do the subtle stencil behind her crib. The original plan was to use polyurethane, but that proved too thin and runny, so Plan B involved paint 50% lighter than her wall color. We also put up a couple of photographs, and hung two dresses that were my mom's. I still want to do two more rows of the stencil, but it was so time consuming that I called it "done" for the time being!

Just Because I'm Cute

This cute outfit from Zach, Julie, Eli and Abby Jason looks adorable on Laine. (Of course, I'm a bit biased as her mommy.)

The Command Center

When Laine was born, we got this fantastic jumpy seat from my Uncle Dick, Aunt Jennie and cousin Stephanie. Last Friday I decided Laine might be big enough for it, so I put it together one evening after she went to sleep and had it sitting in the living room for her to try out the next morning. There were no age requirements on the box or in the instructions, so I wasn't sure...but look who was all smiles when she first sat in it!

I'm a blur because I'm bouncing! (Or still attempting to bounce at this point.)

Daddy Time

Laine's bedtime is promptly at 7pm each night. Jayson gets home around 5:30ish, which means his time with Laine each evening is very short. This makes time with daddy very special for Laine.

Last meal before bedtime. Daddy loves to feed Laine now that she's taking a bottle.

Wearing Mommy's Clothes

David and Mavis Kelley gave my parents this beautiful sweater and bonnet when I was born over 32 years ago. We tried it on Laine and it was a perfect fit! She's been wearing it at least once a week and I love that she can wear my clothes. Stay tuned for a side-by-side comparion of me in the sweater and Laine in hers.

Laine is Four Months!

For Laine's fourth month milestone, we spent the afternoon down at the Kirkland waterfront. Keep in mind, this was February 20th...and yet it was around 60 degrees and sunny. This has been one of the nicest winters we've had! We're only afraid that Laine will be duped into thinking that this is typical Seattle weather, and be disappointed next year.

Don't worry Grandpa, the brake was on!

At Laine's four month appointment, she was 26 inches and 15 pounds, 1 ounce. Her height was still above the 95th percentile, but her weight has dropped to the 50-75th percentile. The doctor said that's just fine, and that she's a healthy little girl!
